Oct 23rd 2006 - U'S Players endure a lengthy trip back to Colchester

It was a late night for the U's players on Monday, as the team coach suffered a small fire on the way back from Coventry.

Having fell to a narrow defeat at the Ricoh Arena, the team made their way back to Colchester but got only as far as Rothwell, near Kettering, before the coach lost power.

The players were ushered off the coach as smoke entered the seating area and a fire was soon discovered underneath - and was quickly extinguished. Patience was then a virtue, as the squad awaited a replacement coach and, after a prolonged wait in the rain by the side of the A14, the U's players were transported back to Essex.

Having arrived home at just after 4am, we're happy to report that everyone is safe and sound, if a little tired, and ready to go for the weekend visit of Southampton.
