A product of the YTS scheme at Layer Road, Karl is Colchester United's longest serving player, now in his twelfth year with the U's having made nearly 400 appearances. A true crowd favourite, his versatility has meant that he has played in both full back positions, either side of midfield and even as an out and out striker.
Legendary and cult status was guaranteed with the historic goal that he scored at Layer Road in September 2006 to defeat local rivals Ipswich Town. "Doogie" as he is affectionately known to the Layer Road faithful has played under no less than 5 different managers. He wears the captaincy armband with pride and is always the last player to leave the pitch both home and away as he shows his appreciation of the fans, win, lose or draw.
Still only 29 years old, Doogie has a few more playing years in him yet and who would bet against him managing the club he loves so much one day?
